Jack Thomas Cope: A Baby Story 8-29-10
"I started having irregular contractions yesterday (8-28-10) afternoon but when I was walking around they became more regular so about 3pm I went ahead and called Zach (who was at the Lamar fair) and told him to go ahead and come on home because I was pretty certain we should probably head to the hospital. Just like when I was in labor with Mia, I wasn't in any pain, just uncomfortable, so of course Zach didn't believe me! : ) We got to the hospital around 5pm and I was dilated 5 cm so they started my antibiotics. I am strepB+ so that's why it is important that I get to the hospital in plenty of time to get 2 doses of antibiotics.
My contractions of course still weren't consistent so I wasn't dilating very quickly (for me anyway). When my mom got to the hospital at 9:30pm I was only dilated to 7cm. I got my 2nd dose of antibiotics around 9:30pm and at 10pm Sue came in and asked me if I wanted her to break my water. Of course I did because I knew once my water was broke I would start progressing more quickly. During this entire time I would rate my pain at maybe a 2. We were all joking around and laughing (we were watching a movie and Zach informed us that Tom Cruise was his McDreamy). Shortly after midnight the contractions started coming more frequently and I was starting to become more uncomfortable. Sue checked me and I was only 8-9 cm. She didn't have to check me again because at 12:30 it was obvious I was beginning to transition. Zach told me he looked at the clock at 12:39, looked back down to me as I was sitting up getting ready to push and Jack Thomas was born at 12:40am. He weighed 6lbs 5oz and is 19in long. I only had to push with one contraction and he was out. I could not have asked for a better labor and delivery experience. So we were really shocked to learn that Jack was having trouble breathing."
And of course, you need pictures:
Jack had to stay in the NICU for 5 days. He is doing GREAT now though. I love him so much! The girls think he is pretty darn special as well.

Thanks! Congrats to you too. Love all your new pictures. The girls ARE growing up so fast. I can't believe how much Mia has changed since she was a baby. They are all so cute.
