Addie's Screening with Parents as Teachers

If you read this blog post  Parents as Teachers , you know that I have enrolled the kids in the Parents As Teachers program.  Today was Addie's turn for her screening: the kindergarten screening.  She will get this screening done every year until she starts kindergarten so by the time she does start kindergarten she will be a pro! I was a little nervous about her having the exact same screening as a 5 year old getting ready to start kindergarten would because I figured her score would be pretty low since she is still only three and doesn't go to preschool or anything.  Of course, I should have known better than to worry about her.

These are the areas:                  Addie's Score
Motor                                          94
Concepts                                      79
Language                                      44
Self-Help                                       67
Social                                            83

99 is perfect and anything above 50 is is considered good.  Though Addie scored within her age bracket on everything, she didn't score so hot on the Language section because of her Problem Solving abilities.  When asked the following questions, these were her answers:
What would you do if you were thirsty? "I would spill it"
What would you do if you walked into a dark room? "I would run away really fast"
What would you do if you broke something? "I would tell Mom"

Apparently those aren't good answers so we have to work on that! LOL I think they are kinda funny but of course, I am her mommy so I think she is hilarious.
Keeping in mind that this was the actual kindergarten screening test, I think she did pretty good!
She did however fail her left ear hearing test.  The lady said that she could have just been "done" for the day or maybe her cold is interfering with her hearing (she is prone to ear infections) but she said not to worry yet.  Addie will just have another hearing screening in about 6 weeks to make sure there isn't a problem.  I will of course, keep you posted!
