4 month check up

Mia had her 4 month check up on Monday the 22nd. She weighs 12lbs 4oz and was 24 inches long (50th for height, 25th for weight). I was told that she is 6 weeks ahead of schedule as far as her gross motor skills go (which basically just means she is sitting up, rolling over and standing earlier than most babies her age) and she apparently is TEETHING! I know! Nuts! I wasn’t expecting her to go through teething until she was a couple months older! But nope, my 4 month old baby is getting teeth. She isn’t fussy or anything so I really had no idea. My only clues were that she was gnawing on her pacifier (putting it to the side of her mouth and chewing as hard as she could) and she has a runny nose but those are the only indications I have noticed. But her nurse did feel them so I checked them out myself and sure enough, she is getting teeth.
I was even more surprised at how well Mia handled her shots. I already know that Mia is a pretty mellow baby for the most part (though when she IS upset, no matter how rare that is, it is NOT fun! She definitely lets you know!) She cried of course immediately afterwards but as soon as I picked her up she was fine. No more tears. It was crazy. That never happened with Addie. When Addie got shots it was the end of the world and she cried all the way home. No fun.
But even Addie surprised me yesterday. She had to get one more shot (long story but basically her 18 month check up was scheduled 5 days before she could get one of her shots so I had to bring her back) and of course she cried and screamed and yelled and kicked and threw a gigantic fit…
UNTIL…
She realized that she was making Mia upset and then she immediately stopped and went over to Mia and started rocking her (Mia was in her carseat). How sweet is that?
So Addie got some ice cream for being such a good big sister.
And for being so nice to Mommy while we were at the doctors office. You see, it was the first time I took the girls by myself. Usually Zach goes with us but he had to work late so I was on my own. Needless to say I was a bit nervous about taking a very active toddler AND a 4 month old baby out in public by myself. But I knew the day had to come at some point! And to my surprise, I was successful! Addie listened to me the whole time, didn’t tell me “No” once, and held my hand when we were walking. I was very impressed. It may not seem like that big of a deal, but if you knew what kind of temperamental demon my precious baby girl can be at times, you would know why I was so excited that she behaved herself!
We had a good weekend in Manhattan and I will try to post pictures tomorrow!
