Happy Birthday, Addie!

2 years ago, I had come to terms with the fact that I was going to be pregnant forever. Even though I was only 38 weeks, I was extremely impatient to meet my baby girl. Probably because I had been on bed-rest for a month due to preterm labor. A month of not doing anything is bound to make even the most patient person a bit restless, don’t you think?
Those were the days of Myspace blogging. Here is what I had to say 2 years ago today:

38 weeks today and still no baby! : (
Geesh! I am getting sooooooooooooo freaking impatient!
We are pretty much set on Addison Michelle now (Michelle was never an issue because its my Mom's name but I like Addison way better than Ava now)
I am MISERABLE.
I go in for my next appointment tomorrow so cross your fingers that they tell me its time! I am dilated 3 cm and 80% effaced and my friend Sonja said that when she got to 4 cm they just went ahead and broke her water so I am hoping the same happens for me.
That’s pretty much it. Life is boring on bed rest....

I stand corrected.....
Addison Michelle Cope decided to come yesterday after all!! : )

“A Baby Story”
I still can't believe how smoothly everything went. Of course, we came REALLY close to arriving at the hospital too late! I started having irregular contractions around 1pm but because they weren't consistent I wasn't too concerned. At 8pm though they were obviously the real thing. They still didn't hurt a whole lot but they were coming every 2 minutes. My doctor said not to go in unless I couldn't walk or talk or my water broke so I was still not too worried. Then it happened: I went to the bathroom and my water broke! After that the contractions came stronger and by the time we got to the hospital I was in some serious pain. The nurse checked me and I was dilated 6 cm. That was probably a little after 9pm. She checked me again in about 20 minutes and I was 8cm and probably about 15 minutes after that she said I was at a 9, almost 10. Within minutes I felt the urge to push and so she checked me again and I was completely dilated and effaced and it was entirely too late for any pain meds! Everything happened so quickly that even though the epidural had been ordered it wasn't going to be ready in time. I was a little freaked out because by now I was really hurting (and so was Zach's hand...) but the nurse pointed out I made it that far with nothing, and only had a little bit further to go. So the doctor came in, I pushed twice but wasn't doing it quite right (Nobody ever told me exactly HOW you are supposed to do it! They didn’t even tell me when we went to the class so how was I supposed to know?!?) but after the nurse told me how to do it (which is weird by the way...), I pushed 3 more times and she was born (I pushed for a total of 5 minutes)! She got a 9 out of 10 on her Apgar test, weighed 6 lbs 3 oz and was 19 inches long. And she is completely adorable! Of course, I may be a little bias...: )

And now my beautiful baby, isn't a baby any more.
Happy 2nd Birthday Addie Cakes! I love you more than you will ever know!
